TA
Alize Cranks
|
|
|
With Shimano and Campagnolo cranksets, you have few options for chainrings. TA Alize cranks are available in 3 crank lengths, and with a large assortment of chainring sizes. Available crank lengths are 170mm, 172.5mm, and 175mm.
Alize Double with black chainrings and optional Auto-Extractors in black. |

This is the Alize Double crankset. The 130mm bolt circle is compatible with Shimano and many other brands of chainrings. But most folks will want to use TA chainrings since they are very durable, shift smoothly and are available in many sizes. The Alize can be converted to a triple crankset with TA Alize K+ middle chainrings. The smallest ring on a double is 38 teeth. Alize chainrings are pinned and ramped to enable smooth shifting under load with STI and Ergo shifters. Hegoa chainrings are designed to work as matched pairs to make shifts even smoother. The Hegoa rings are only for double cranksets, the inner ring having no pins for lifting the chain from a third, inner chainring. They get some additional machining to reduce weight. There are no triple versions. The Alize double crank with Hegoa chainrings and aluminum chainring bolts is called the Alize Light crankset. I stock the Alize Light with either black or red Hegoa chainrings.
Alize Light with Red Hegoa chainrings and optional Auto-Extractors in red. Alize Light cranksets are available with 53-39, 52-38, 51-38, and 50-38 chainrings in either red or black anodizing. Red, Black and Silver Auto-Extractors are available. Used as a double, a 103mm bottom bracket axle is required. As a triple, use a 113mm axle on most frames. The Rivendell Rambouillet uses a 116mm BB with a triple, due to the widely spaced chainstays. I stock both TA and Phil Wood bottom brackets in these lengths. Most lengths of TA bottom brackets are available with titanium axles. See the "Pro" designation. Choose from any TA Alize 130mm bolt circle chainrings (silver or black) on my chainrings page. Keep in mind that some front derailleurs work best with specific chainring sizes. For instance, if you're using the Alize K+ ring to make convert to a triple, a Shimano Ultegra Triple front derailleur works best when there's a ten tooth difference between the outer and middle chainrings. The Dura Ace Triple FD works best with a fourteen tooth difference.
Alize rings are available in silver and black for doubles and triples. Hegoa chainrings are available in black and red for doubles only. Tandem timing rings are only available in black. The cranks come with chainrings, chainring bolts, crank bolts and pedal washers. They are compatible with the TA Auto-Extractors. The crank extractor threads are current industry standard, just like Campagnolo, older Shimano, Sugino, and many American cranks.
Alize Triple (No longer available) with black chainrings, 53-39-30.
Alize Triple (No longer available) with silver chainrings, 48-38-24. If you get a Shimano Ultegra triple crankset, it will come with 52-42-30 chainrings. You can pay more to get TA rings in sizes you prefer installed on the Ultegra, or you can get an Alize instead, saving lots of money. The Alize doubles are now available in three crank lengths; 170mm. 172.5mm, and 175mm. An older model also called Alize was made in 12 lengths. If you need a length not made in the Alize, the Carmina crank is made in 10 lengths, 155mm through 185mm.
Alize Tandem with black chainrings. I stock the tandem fronts (captain's) in 180mm, 175mm, 172.5mm and 170mm. I stock tandem rears (stoker's) in 172.5mm, 170mm, and 165mm. Tandem timing rings are black or silver. The black rings have 39 teeth and the silver rings have 40 teeth. Drive rings can be black (in some sizes) or silver. We have lots of tandem cranksets in stock as of Feb, 2006.

The Alize Triple is no more. But you can use an Alize double set of arms, then add an outer chainring, an Alize K+ tripleizer middle chainring, and an inner 74mm Zelito chainring to make yourself a triple crankset.

Weights I get frequent requests for weights of various combinations of cranks and chainrings. One person wants to know how much a 175mm Alize with 52-42-26 rings weighs. Another wants to know how much a 155mm Zephyr with 48-36-24 rings weighs, and what the difference would be if he got a stainless 24 tooth ring instead of aluminum. Well, I don't have all the answers, but I do have some weights for comparison purposes. Alize Triple crankset: 172.5mm arms, 52-42-32 teeth: 760 grams. Alize Double crankset: 172.5mm arms, 52-42 teeth: 670 grams. Alize Light crankset: 172.5mm arms, 52-42 teeth: 630 grams. The "Light" version of the Alize is so much lighter than the "Double" due to the use of aluminum chainring bolts and extra machining off of material from the chainrings. Alize Track crankset: 172.5mm arms 48 teeth single ring: 620 grams. |
