Danolite LED Headlight

I've found what appears to be the lightest, smallest, coolest little LED headlight for mounting on your helmet. The light weighs only 18 grams. It straps to your helmet using the vents, has a reasonably long cord and a battery case with on/off switch that can fit easily into a rear jersey pocket. It's so light, you'll never know it's on your helmet, making this the ultimate helmet mounted light for long distance riding such as brevets. As every long distance cyclist knows, every gram of weight on your head seems much heavier after 100 miles of riding.

You can strap the light on or just stick it on with the included Superlock Fastener material.

The power cable has a connection close to the light so that when you take your helmet off and the battery is tucked away in your clothing, you can just disconnect it without having to fish out the battery pack. The pack holds 4 AA NiMH batteries which are included along with a charger. Only use NiMH batteries with the Danolite. Do not substitute other batteries such as Alkalines. Using alkaline batteries will damage the Danolite and void your warantee!

The beam is a 12 degree spot, perfect for helmet mounting. It's quite bright, far more than you need for just reading a map or cue sheet. This is enough to ride with at moderate speeds. The Danolite is intended as your only light for easy single track mountain biking at night, and it certainly fits the bill for a truly minimalist system. For fast riding you would probably also want another light with a wider beam mounted on your handlebar

For road riding at speed, I'd want more light than just the Danolite provides. So I see it as the perfect helmet light to use in addition to a bike mounted light such as the Busch & Müller Ixon or a dynamo powered system. Not only will it enable you to see a map or cue sheet, you'll be able to do any roadside repairs. You'll also be able to read road signs, flash oncoming drivers who haven't dropped their high beams, and see down side streets and watch for people and animals along the roadside.

While I sell other helmet mounted lights that have good light output, nothing I know of is as light weight as the Danolite. And only much heavier lights are as bright as the Danolite. Fr example, the CatEye EL400 is much less expensive. But it's not nearly as bright as the Danolite, and since the batteries are in the light itself, it's much heavier on your neck. So the Danolite is by far the best helmet light I know of.

Weight is the primary reason why cyclists don't use helmet mounted lights. Having a light that's always pointed where you're facing is invaluable. But up until now, that has meant using more expensive, and much heavier lights, which for many riders means an aching neck after an hour or so. With the Danolite, there's no longer any reason not to have a light on your helmet.

While not waterproof, you should have no trouble using the Danolite in heavy rain. Don't let the battery case fill with water. And if you're riding in hot weather and sweating hard with the battery case in a back pocket, put the battery case inside a plastic bag to prevent your salty sweat from fouling the battery terminals in the case. If you use a Camelback, you could put the battery case inside the Camelback pack when it's really hot.

Rated output is 60 lumens at 12 degrees. The batteries are 1800 mAH NiMH AA cells. Runtime is 2.6 hours.

Only use NiMH batteries with the Danolite. Do not substitute other batteries such as Alkalines. Using alkaline batteries will damage the Danolite and void your warantee!
