Shown here with the Appcon 3000. The A-Headset mount fits inside the 1 1/8" threadless steerer tube of most modern bicycles. The star nut needs to be set further down the steerer tube than normal. A special tool is required for this. Also, the A-Headset mount only works with steel steerer tubes, threadless, and 1 1/8" outside diameter. That's also 25.4mm inside diameter. The steerer tube cannot be made of carbon fiber, and it must not be tapered. If you don't understand what I've written here, you must not attempt to install the A-Headset Mount yourself, but rather you must instead take the bicycle to a qualified bicycle mechanic for installation. Of course you can still use the Appcon 3000 with the water bottle mount, or the water resistant carry bag, or another bag such as a handlebar bag. If you are not experienced with installing forks in modern bicycle frames you can easily damage the A-Headset Mount by improper installation, and such damage is not covered by the warrantee. | The Ideal Appcon 3000 Installation |

| Here is the Appcon 3000 installed in the steerer tube. This is the best way to use the Appcon 3000 provided your bike has a modern 1 1/8" steel or aluminum threadless steerer tube. This way the Appcon is out of the way, but well protected. And it's very easy to remove it for charging from an AC source with a USB adapter. It can easily connect to the input cable from your hub dynamo (for charging while you ride) as well as the output to the mobile phone or GPS unit, which is typically mounted on the handlebar.

You can buy the A-Headset mount and installation tool as a set. Tool on the left, A-Headset mount on the right. The star nut must be positioned much further down the steerer tube than normal. The top of the star nut must be at least 165mm from the top of the steerer tube. The installation tool has a bolt on the bottom that threads into the star nut. You then use a hammer to force the star nut down the steerer tube. Then twist the tool counterclockwise to unscrew from the star nut and remove the tool. The steerer tube must be steel. Carbon fiber steerer tubes WILL NOT WORK. Also, the steerer tube must not be tapered.
Then, you will need a long allen wrench to install the A-Headset Mount.
